VETERAN SERVICES
Military Funeral Benefits and VA Honors

Veterans and their families are often entitled to funeral benefits many don't realize exist. Understanding these options can ease both emotional and financial strain during an already difficult time.
Eligible veterans can receive military funeral honors, including a flag-folding ceremony and, in many cases, a rifle volley or bugler playing Taps, performed by a joint service honor guard upon request. Many veterans also qualify for burial in a national cemetery at no cost, including the grave site, opening and closing, and a headstone or marker.
The Department of Veterans Affairs also offers a burial allowance to help offset costs, along with a Presidential Memorial Certificate honoring the veteran's service. Some family members, including spouses and dependents, may be eligible for burial alongside the veteran in a national cemetery as well.

Documentation is key — a DD214 (discharge paperwork) is typically required to confirm eligibility, so it's worth locating this in advance if possible. Our staff is experienced in coordinating military honors and VA paperwork, and we're glad to help families navigate every step so their loved one's service is properly honored.
